Fine example of 1970's styling. The great England Admiral shirt. Had one of these as a kid, but they cost a fortune in those days, so I was very lucky. Didn't think for a moment back then that when I was older I would own a number of them worn by the actual players. This was said to be Phil Neals worn against Italy. I have not done the research to find out yet, but will do. The shirt has a Christies Auction House tag hanging from it, which would further indicate Phil Neal as many of his shirts have ended up at auction.
These shirts were used from 1974 to 1979 and various materials were used. There was a polyester one, along with a few cotton versions, one being the airtex version used in hot climates. These Admiral shirts started the revolotion of football marketing. Before this, there were very few replica shirts sold, but as soon as these were produced, the whole football shirt market changed.
Sewn on England badges were not the norm on the replicas, who generally had transferred badges. This is a truly great designed shirt and a genuine part of the change of football culture.
